Discussion about water is on tap

By Freda Savana, Intelligencer, June 14, 2008

Plumstead officials will be talking water Monday night.

Supervisors are meeting with the township's hydrologist and the contractor who monitors the needs of the four township-owned water systems at 7:30 p.m. in the township building.

Frank Froio, board chairman, characterized the meeting as one to plan for future needs of the aging systems, which were all dedicated to the township after the developments they serve were complete.

About 2,000 people receive their water from the public well systems, said township manager Carolyn McCreary. Earlier this year they faced a 3 percent rate hike with the understanding the extra revenue would be earmarked for capital improvements.

Plumstead's hydro-geologist, Bruno Mercuri, will present his report to the board and take questions about the systems' needs.

Mike Sullivan, the township's contractor who monitors the systems, will also be on hand.

A township-wide water study is also underway. A preliminary report on that is expected later in the summer.
